Woah!! You logged into GA and noticed some changes. Yes, Google just had some really good hands this time in updating Google Analytics in order to make it more user-friendly and easy to use for its users.
Last year, Google introduced a fully redesigned mobile app for better insights on the go (which has now been downloaded over a million times!). They then introduced automated insights in the mobile app and simplified our web UI.
Today they updated Google Analytics with additional enhancements designed to help users make better data-driven decisions based on a deeper understanding of their targeted audience.
A completely new home with insightful analytics data – That’s All a User Needs
The “HOME” now shows user stats of last seven days which automatically compared the data from previous 7 days to calculate the (+) and (-) of,
- Total Users
- Bounce Rate, and
- Session Duration
The time period to calculate or compare traffic can be re-arranged by clicking the “Last 7 Days” option available in the bottom left corner of “Home”.
- Last 7 Days
- Last 14 Days
- Last 28 Days
- Last 30 Days
- Last 90 Days
- Last 180 Days
- Last Year
Along with this, it offers a real-time view of users active in real time on a website with a default time frame of “1 Minute” and also shows the active web pages.
Basically, now you don’t need to go and click on different reporting segments to check the things, Homepage is enough for all.
Another major update is “How do you Acquire Users?”
Here you can see the website traffic through different search channels for the last 7 days by default which you can change as per your requirement.
- Organic Search
- Direct Visitors
- Social Search/Traffic/Visitors
- Referrals, and
- Through Other Sources
This area shows website traffic source/medium which is again a very helpful segment on the Google Analytics Home Page.
And, here comes the stats for Referrals which shows the top referral website resources.
This is, in fact, a really good latest Google Analytics Update because it offers an overview of key aspects of your business’ online presence. Here are a few highlights:
You can see snippets from a curated set Google Analytics reports, including real time data, with simple and streamlined controls.
Each snippet is preceded by a helpful question that frames the data, such as “When do your users visit?” or “Where do your users come from?”.
Want to dig deeper? Hover on any data point for more details or drill into the relevant report with the provided link on each card.
“Home” is automatically configured based on your setup: For example, if you have Goals or Ecommerce, you’ll see the page change accordingly.
More Home Page Segments includes:
- How are your active users trending over time?
How well do you retain users?
When do your users visit?
Where are your users?
What are your top devices?
What pages do your users visit?
How are you performing against goals? And,
How are your AdWords campaigns performing?
Google Analytics Home, is an updated page with lots of helpful user insights. However, existing reports have not changed. The Audience Overview report, which used to be the default landing page, is still available: just open the “Audience” section in the side navigation and click on “Overview”.
