Dutch Is One Language, but Two Search Markets
Standard Dutch is shared across the Netherlands and Flanders, but everyday vocabulary is not. A shopper in Rotterdam looking for a new phone searches for a "mobiel," while a shopper in Ghent is just as likely to type "gsm." Someone in Utrecht wants a "koelkast"; many Flemish speakers say "frigo." A cleaning company in Amsterdam offers "schoonmaken," while in Antwerp people also search for "kuisen."
Tone differs as well. Much of Dutch e-commerce addresses customers with the informal "je." Many Flemish readers, and B2B buyers in both countries, respond better to the more formal "u."
Our Dutch SEO packages treat nl-NL and nl-BE as separate targets whenever the keyword data shows a real difference. Each version gets its own keyword set, its own copy adjustments and correct hreflang tags. This way, the Belgian page doesn't compete with the Dutch page, and neither market sees wording that feels foreign.
